France receives Zeppelin in a storm of cheers! As for this performance, it is perhaps the sleeper hit of the entire European 1973 tour. A straight-forward and no-frills show, this gig is a definite consolidation show. Whereas Page and Bonham seemed to have toned down their incredible technique at the shows in Lyon and Nancy, here in Paris they are definitely back at it, and this show features more stunning playing from the both of them. All of the usual spots are performed excellently ... the solo portion in Over The Hills And Far Away, Since I've Been Loving You, Dazed And Confused, Stairway To Heaven, the Whole Lotta Love medley ... Again, more of that unpredictable rhythmic fury from Bonham, and that fluid and emotionally expressive playing from Page. This might actually be the duo's most polished performance of the tour, having just enough of that frenetic energy from the week before, but mixed with a confident and effortless presentation. What makes this particular show all that more of a standout is that this is also the best voice that Plant has been in since before his vocal crash in January. |
