This is one of the greatest shows ever! Right from the start this show is special. The band is on and Robert's voice is perfect, controlled and his entire range is used, resulting in one of his finest recorded vocal performances! "Good evening. Everybody feel alright? Tonight we intend to get everybody looser than anybody's even been loose ... even with cod liver oil!" tells Plant at the beginning of the show. Heartbreaker features some wonderful playing form Jimmy in his solo in the middle but Plant calmed down the audience after the song: "The people who are standing in the aisles, can they sit on the floor or whatever. There's some people behind can't see. So if anybody knows they are obstructing somebody else's view, can they respect that fact or move, then everybody can see!" Since I've Been Loving you was dedicated to "...the little men with the suits on who keep pushing everybody back down the aisle. It's their big day, y'see. They can't understand it." Plant also humorously introduced the band at the beginning of How Many More Times as "the four survivors of the Graf Zeppelin", John Bonham as "for the benefit if Mr Kite! and Pagey as "the man who made rock, rock". After a wild version of that song, the Whole Lotta Love encore features a duel between Jimmy on the Theremin and Jonesy on a heavily distorted organ....simply wild! An announcer informed the crowd about the forthcoming event - Jimi Hendrix on April 25th, 1970. |
